Thomas Wayne Raikes, age 65, of Sycamore, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.

Born May 18, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Charles T. and Mary E. (McHenry) Raikes, Tom married Beverly J. Thomas on January 14, 1972, in Petersburg, Illinois. He and Bev spent 42 years together and they were looking forward to many more years in retirement.

Tom was a veteran of the US Army, having served from 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam. Tom worked at Ideal Industries, DeKalb, for 32 years.

He loved to golf, fish and spend time with his grandson, Brandon, who was the light of his life, and loved attending his many sporting events; Tom never missed any of Brandon's games.

He is survived by his wife, Bev; son, Curtis Raikes; grandson, Brandon Spartz-Raikes and Brandon's mother, Jaclyn Spartz; mother, Mary Evelyn Raikes of Oakford; brothers, Sam (Yvonne) Raikes of Oakford and Ron Raikes of Petersburg; sisters, Jane (Greg) Rebbe and Linda (David) Klopfenstein, both of Petersburg, and Julie (George) Atterberry and Mary Beth (Jim) King, both of Oakford; father- and mother-in-law, Elmer R. and Mary Evelyn Thomas of Petersburg; brothers-in-law, Bruce A. Thomas of Petersburg and Scott (Roberta) Thomas of Oakford; sister-in-law, Vicki Thomas of Petersburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; daughters, Dawn in 1980, and Nikki in 1974; brother, Mack Raikes; grandparents, Herbert and Bertha Raikes and Marshall and Blanche McHenry; and brother-in-law, Steve Thomas.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, followed by full military honors. Cremation by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory will follow.
