Earnest M. Mason

Born: Dec. 16, 1923; in Dixon, IL

Died: Aug. 27, 2014; in DeKalb, IL

Earnest Milton "Bill" Mason, age 90, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.

Born December 16, 1923, in Dixon, the son of Walter S. and Bertha A. (Clark) Mason. Bill married Margaret Ailene Venable on September 16, 1945, in Blaine, Illinois.

He worked for Clark Auto Action of Ottawa, Reynolds Wire Mill in Dixon and Dixon Ice Plant before developing his banking skills and going to work at Northern Illinois Finance Co. in DeKalb and DeKalb Bank, from which he retired.

Bill was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps, having served during World War II as a B-29 flight officer.

He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in DeKalb, where he held several board positions, and a longtime member of DeKalb Kiwanis and past president of Malta School Board.

He enjoyed hobbies, such as golf, bowling and playing pool, along with boating with his family.

He is survived by his sons, Rob (Debra) Mason of Hinckley and Steve (Beverly) Mason of The Villages, Florida; grandchildren, Barbara (John) McNelis, Timothy (Chris) Mason, Julie Mason, Jason Beckmann, Erin (Doug) Kellogg, Corinne Mason and Holly Mason; great-grandchildren, Johnny and Sarah McNelis, and Addilyn Mason; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, on February 13, 2014; daughter, Linda Beckmann; and son, James Mason.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 349 South Third Street, DeKalb, with the Rev. Bob Edwards officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Earnest M. "Bill" Mason Memorial Fund for First Baptist Church, sent to the Mason Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
