MICHAEL MASONER Obituary

Michael "Rick" Masoner, 54, of Elgin, Ill., passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Pine View Care Center in St. Charles due to complications of multiple sclerosis after a long, courageous battle with the illness.

He was born April 24, 1954, in DeKalb, the son of Kenneth and Nan (Lawson) Bennett. He grew up in the DeKalb and Genoa area, graduating from Genoa-Kingston High School in 1972. He worked as a night stocker at Gromers for 11 years and as a computer programmer at Motorola for 16 years. He had a great passion for muscle cars, especially the Plymouth Cuda. Prior to his debilitating illness, he really enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, where he had many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Landwehr, whom he married on June 21, 1996, in St. Charles; son, Mark Masoner; mother, Nan Bennett of Genoa; sister, Vera (Charles) Hicks of Daleville, Ala.; brothers Jack (Sally) Masoner of DeKalb and John Masoner of North Carolina; nephews Richard A. (Amber) Hicks of Daleville, Ala., David Masoner of DeKalb, and Jeremy and Jason Masoner of Beloit, Wis.; and nieces Amanda Masoner of DeKalb and Marci Masoner of Beloit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, in June 1996.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Elgin Evangelical Free Church, 1900 Big Timber Road, Elgin. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Dear Family of Rick, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. His life was robbed of many years in dying so young. Cousin Jackie B. emailed me this sad news. I understand MS as my youngest brother Gary,(50) has MS too. May God give you peace in knowing Rick no longer has to fight all the physical, emotional and mental challenges MS delivers. My thoughts & prayers, be with you.
