1930 - 2010 Obituary Condolences
Elmer K. Irving, 79, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at home.
He was born May 9, 1930, in DeKalb, the son of Guy and Molly (Palmer) Irving. Elmer married Joann Schoo, on July 3, 1954, in DeKalb, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Elmer was a 1948 graduate of Waterman High School and a veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st class, serving in the Korean War from 1951-1954. He later worked for GE as an inspector for 40 years, until his retirement in 1990. Elmer was a member of the Sycamore Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an avid sports fan. His greatest passion was golf and he had the distinction of achieving three holes in one.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joann; two sons, Eugene (Annette) Irving of DeKalb and Joseph Irving of Kentucky; two daughters, Julie (Chris) Christopherson of Cortland and Amy Schultz of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Orlo) Oleson of Rochelle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jacob Conrad; and granddaughter, Rachel Schultz.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb with the Rev. Robert Vaughn officiating. Full military rites will be provided by the DeKalb Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of services at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at the Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
