DeKALB – Vera Turner, 88, of DeKalb, Ill., died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, DeKalb.|
Born Oct. 3, 1923, in Murphysboro, the daughter of Frank and Lucille (Reeves) Whittington, she married Robert Turner on March 22, 1947, in Chicago.
She was employed in housekeeping by St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and loved to play bingo.
She is survived by her children, Cora Copeland of DeKalb and Bradley Robert (Victoria) Turner of Batesville, Ark.; grandchildren, Dawn (Jason) Lannom-Beckett, Robert (Jeannie) Porter, Christine Lannom, Stacy Monell, Lisa Porter, Bryan Turner and Colin Hunt; great-grandchildren, Ashley Lannom, Alexandra (Ted) Rydberg, Haleigh Lannom, Chelcie Lannom, Summer Sturtz, Lily Sturtz, Ty Sturtz, Xander Monell, Karilyn Porter, Katherine Porter, Ryan Porter and Daniel Porter; great-great-grandchildren, Ayden and Alyvia Lannom and Brooklyn Lannom; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two children, Brian Turner and Roberta Porter; and three sisters, Toleda, Vivian and Frances.
Private family memorial service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn of Malta Congregational Church officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
