GENOA – Barbara A. Swanson, 86, of Genoa, Ill. died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at her home.|
She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Belvidere, Ill., the daughter of Edward J. and Lila (Cornwell) Berg. She married Paul W. Swanson Dec. 29, 1944.
Barbara was a homemaker and helped on the family farm with her husband. She enjoyed staying active with her children and being the first 4-H leader of an all girls group in Genoa. She also was a den mother for Cub Scouts and a bowling coach.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Linda) Swanson, Penny Swanson and Crystal (Mike) Gahlbeck; six grandchildren, Stan (Tami) Swanson, Christopher Swanson, Mike (Rachel) Thompson, Samantha, Kate and Joshua Gahlbeck; and four great-grandchildren, Kyla, Braden and Kaleb Jamar and McKenna Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Stanley; one grandson, Brian; four sisters and one brother.
A memorial visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Slater-Butala Funeral Home in Genoa, with a service beginning at 6 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
