Archie Murphy Obituary
Murphy, Archie L. Of Park Forest, IL entered into rest on April 18, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Archie was born on June 22, 1930 to the late Rev. Robert and Idella Murphy who preceded him in death along with three brothers, Robert Jr., Louie and Alfred, and one sister, Vallee Pernell. He attended Englewood High School in Chicago. After high school he enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after 9 years earning many citations and medals for his service. He was a machinist at Ralston Purina and Rockwell International in Battle Creek MI. He retired from Rockwell after 23 years and moved to Long Beach, CA where he worked and retired from Boeing. Archie's favorite hobby was fishing. He also loved music and working with his hands. Archie married Cleandress in 2001, and blended a family with his three children, one daughter and two sons with her daughter. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cleandress; two sons, Archie Jr. (Valarie) of Battle Creek, MI, Andre (Michelle) of Fort Mitchell, AL; one daughter, Brenda of Battle Creek, MI; a step-daughter, Tracell Parker; a sister, Mary Tolen of Glendale, AZ; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Rance Pitts, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or formal service. Interment will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL. Final arrangements entrusted to Woods Funeral Home, Ltd., 1003 South Halsted Street, Chicago, Heights, IL (708)755-2010.
