Obituary Condolences

Cantzler, Margaret "Peggy" Mansfield, OH - Margaret "Peggy" Cantzler was born on April 29, 1921 in Chicago. Her parents were Margaret and Frederick Schultz. Margaret was born at her maternal grandparent's home on Coles Avenue & 71st Street. Margaret was the third of their eight children. The Schultz family belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in South Chicago. Margaret attended the Lutheran school there through 8th grade. She was baptized and confirmed there. She then attended Bowen High School for three years. Before her senior year, her family moved out of the Bowen HS district and she spent her last high school year at Hirsch High School, where she met her future husband, Richard M. Cantzler. After graduating, she attended a business college in Chicago for a year, after which she held a number of secretarial positions downtown. She went to Northwestern University night school classes and attended the University of Illinois of Champaign for a short time. When the U.S. went into WWII, Margaret was employed in war work, first at US Steel Corp in the blast furnace department and later in a B-32 aircraft engine plant. Richard continued to work on the railroad in Chicago as he had since graduation from high school. He went into the Air Force training program about 1943. They were married on May 10, 1944 in Chicago. He was sent to England in January 1945, and came home safely when the war in Europe ended in June 1945. The young couple and their two older children lived with his family. Richard Jr. and Kenneth were born in Chicago. The family moved to Park Forest, IL in 1949, into a rental townhouse. In 1955 they purchased a new home on Westgate Drive in a new section of Park Forest. Their third son Garry was born in 1954. In 1957 after suffering two heart attacks, Richard became Park Forest Building Inspector. Margaret, in the meantime, went to work in the School District 163 offices. She continued working there for twenty-three years before retiring in 1981. Richard died of a heart attack in 1974. All three boys graduated from college and were married, which left Margaret alone in Park Forest. She then moved to Mansfield, Ohio in the fall of 2006 to live near Rick and his family. Those words, penned by Peggy herself, are a fitting tribute to the life story of a fantastic lady. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Peggy passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home in Mansfield after a short illness. She was 92. Her final resting place will be Skyline Memorial Park in Monee next to her husband. Snyder Funeral Home in Mansfield is assisting the family with cremation arrangements; access her photo and leave condolences by visiting: www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
