Huntington, Arthur M. - Aztec  
Arthur M. Huntington, 94, of Aztec, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Farmington. He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Farmington to Jess and Katherine Huntington. Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a staff sergeant with the 836th Engineering Aviation Battalion in World War II as a construction foreman. Arthur was a longtime resident of Bayfield, Colo., where he drove a truck and operated heavy equipment. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Eventually, he moved to the Aztec area to be near his son and youngest daughter. He took up woodworking, and cutting and baling hay. Arthur was preceded in death by both his parents, Jess L Huntington and Katherine Schaffar Huntington; son, Arthur L. Huntington; brother, Jack Huntington; and sisters, Mildred Edwards and Bernice Emerson. He is survived by Wilma Huntington; sons, Jim (Sharon) Huntington; daughters, Karen (Charlie) Hobbs, Tina (Rich) Silverthorn and Beverly Vieyra; daughter-in-law, Jeannine Huntington; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A viewing will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 29 at the Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington in Farmington. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon at the Cope Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jesse Huntington, Royal Riley, Russell Ford, Chad Ford, J.D. Simkins and Tony Candelaria. James, George "Alton" - Farmington  
George Alton James, 87, of Farmington, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in Albuquerque. He was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Toadlena, to Emer and Adah Currillie James. Alton served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central States Mission from 1947 to 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to October 1953. Alton graduated from OCS in April 1952 and was assigned to the 64th FABN of the 25th Division in Korea. He was a forward observer on "Harry's Out Post," battery executive and then battery commander. Alton worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 30 years as a laboratory chemist and safety inspector. For the next 15 years, he worked as a contract inspector for pipeline and gas plant construction, and hazardous materials clean-up. Alton served his community all of his life. He served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years. Alton was elected to the Board of Directors of the San Juan County Museum Association. He served for seven years as vice president and another nine years as president. Alton led the museum association in many things, including the purchase of the property containing the Salmon Ruins, obtaining funding from the New Mexico Legislature, passing a bond and establishing the Museum and Research Center as it is known today. Alton's daughter, Cheri, preceded him death in 2015. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myrtle LoRelle Hunter James; son, Rick and wife Retta James; son, David and wife Cindy James; and brother, Arthur and wife Kay James. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Apache Building, 400 W. Apache in Farmington. A service will follow at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Farmington with Bishop Carroll Carter conducting. Interment will follow at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery in Kirtland. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post No. 2182 of Farmington. Martinez, Donald Conrad - Aztec  
Donald Conrad Martinez, 77, of Aztec, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, in Aztec. He was born Oct. 1, 1938, to Eugenio and Siria Martinez in Edith, Colo. In his early years, Don grew up in the community of Edith, enjoying the life of mountain living, and, as he came of age, he joined the army, proudly serving his country here and abroad. He met his bride-to-be in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and they were soon married while he worked as a log cutter for many years. They moved to Cedar Hill in 1978, where he pursued a career as a field tech for B.P. until his retirement in June 2004. Though he worked fervently at his job, his passion was always the great outdoors. He continually praised God for providing as he hunted, fished, camped and hiked. He shared this passion with his kids and grandkids, as he always reminded them that, through nature, God gloriously displays his love and greatness. As he served his family, he also served his God and leaves a strong legacy behind so that whosoever will walk in his footsteps. Don was preceded in death by his infant son, Conrad Daniel Martinez; parents, Eugenio and Siria Martinez; brothers, Leo Martinez, Fred Martinez and Eugene Martinez; and sister, Lorraine Beckes. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Martinez; son, Conrad M. Martinez; daughters, Juanita A. Martinez and Loretta F Navarro; brother, J.D. Martinez; sisters, Cleo Apodaca, Ramona Turbeville and Alice Maes; grandchildren, Katherine (Ben) Bennett, Stephan Navarro, Aaron Navarro, Amy Linker, Alicia (Caleb) Myers, Conrad J. Martinez, Conrad C. Martinez, Melissa Romero and Michael Thomas. A memorial service will at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Saving Grace Fellowship, 2115 Huntzinger in Farmington with pastor Earl McQuitty officiating.
