E. Wayne Hampton(1924 - 2013)

E. Wayne Hampton, 89, of St. George, Utah and formerly of Farmington, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013. Born March 6, 1924, in Blue Mountain, Ark., to Robert C. and Vera Hampton. He had three brothers and two sisters. Wayne graduated from Fairfax High School in Oklahoma and served his country under the 5th Bomb Squadron, Ninth Bomb Group. He married Gloria M. Nielson, Aug. 26, 1948. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Wayne and Gloria had two children, Grady W. Hampton and Shelly Lee Hampton; eight grandchildren and 10 1/2 great-grandchildren.
Wayne and Gloria raised their family in Farmington, where Wayne worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company. They served an 18 month mission in Nauvoo, Ill. Wayne had the privilege of playing minor league baseball and was an avid golfer for many years. He enjoyed gardening with Gloria, had the ability to fix just about anything, and was loved for his sense of humor. He was a wonderful dad and granddad.
Wayne is survived by his children, Grady Hampton and wife, Susan of Farmington; Shelley and husband, Kenneth of Peoria, Ariz.; sister, Lela Belle Gailey of Marshfield, Mo.; brother, Bobby and wife, Faye of Kirtland; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., in St. George, Utah.
Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery.
Family lunch will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 W. Apache St. in Farmington, following interment.
