Elizabeth "Betty" Thomas, 100, lived a full and wonderful life. She was born April 5, 1913, in Compton, Calif., the daughter of William Stockwell and Laura Mildred Gaines.
She graduated from the University of Southern California and became an elementary school teacher
in California. She met her husband while in California. He worked for Shell Oil, and they moved multiple times in the west, ending up in Farmington, where she taught elementary school.
Betty loved traveling the world (she was one of the original U.S. citizens to visit China in the late 1970s and went to the Amazon Rainforest when she was 70 years old), playing bridge, book clubs, friends and spending time with family.
Her loving family includes sons, William S. Thomas (Barbara) and James A. Thomas (deceased December 2009) (Tricia); and granddaughter, Jennifer L. Rowland (Jimmy).
Her "Celebration of Life" service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Brewer Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, with Dr. Glenn Perica officiating.
Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St., in Farmington.
