Francis "Peewee" Eugene Shorter, 78, passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, into the arms of Jesus. He was born to William and Eva Susana Shorter on February 29, 1936, in Coffeyville, Kan.
He moved to Aztec when he was 18 years old and began to work in the oil field with his brother, Red. He later met, and married his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane. Shortly after came four blessings, 3 daughters and a son. Francis had a great love for the outdoors and he enjoyed watching sports. He instilled a value for hard work to all around him. He possessed a rough facade that shielded a tender heart, too often seen only by the eyes of the young.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, six siblings, twin grand-daughters, a grandson, and a great grand-daughter. Francis is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; sisters-in-law Jeanie Shorter and Betty Shorter; brother-in-law Eddie Kilgore and wife Minnie; sister-in-law June Salsbury and husband Chuck; also five sisters-in-law from his wife's side.
He is survived by his daughters Carol Dalton, Rhonda Woods, and Deborah Boyd; as well as his son Ron Shorter and wife Marilyn; grandchildren Josh and Aaryn Dalton, and Eric Dalton, Amanda and Aaron Maurer, Evette Dalton, Derrick Barr, Donnie and Kassidy Shorter, Marshall Barr, Laremy and LeAndra Boyd; great grandchildren, Keenan Dalton, Eryka Dalton, Alexander Harrington, Kyle Dalton, Tyler Dalton, Tammara and Machelle Boyd, Preston Shorter, Emily Maurer, Tanner Shorter, Jack Hunter Bowen, Bentley Shorter, Randall Barr; and many more nieces and nephews.
