Glenn Winwar Byrnes(1918 - 2014)

Glen Winwar Byrnes, 95, of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Farmington. He was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Wisconsin to Henry and Elizabeth Byrnes.
Glenn will be remembered for his large stature and voice. "Chei," as he is known by his girls, will be greatly missed. After serving in World War II and teaching at the state hospital in Michigan, Glenn moved his family out west, where he taught and coached for years at Shiprock High School. Later, he coached girls basketball at Navajo Preparatory School. He was inducted into the Catholic League Coaches Hall of Fame in 1978. After retirement, he and Arlene moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he occasionally substituted at various schools up until his 90th year. Glenn was a true Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, no matter their success.
The family wishes to thank Guardian Angel Home Health, Crane's Roost, Dr. Burns and, finally, all the staff at San Juan Manor for their love and care.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene P. Byrnes; daughter, Debrah Lynn Byrnes; his parents; brother, Ernest Byrnes; and one grandchild.
He is survived by his sons, James K. (Leslie) Byrnes and Glenn T. (Dawn) Byrnes; daughter, Allison L. Byrnes; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St. in Farmington.
