Margaret Billie, 91, was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Sanostee, into the Tachii'nii (The Red Running Into the Water) clan and born for Naakai dine'e Clan. She passed from this life on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Farmington.
Margaret was well known and a well respected rug weaver (saddle blankets), double sided weaver, sash belt weaver and a beadworker.
She is survived by her children: daughters, Jannie Benallie of Shiprock, Elsie Charley and husband Harry of Sanostee, Caroline Lewis of Sanostee; son Raymond Begay Sr. and wife Elizabeth Begay of Sanostee; 19 grandkids; 39 great-grandkids; and two great-great-grandkids.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband John Billie; sons, Delbert Begay, Melton Begay, Norman Begay and Dorian Begay.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 5, at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel in Shiprock, with Rick Begay officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiprock Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Darin Lewis, Ivan Lewis, Samuel Benallie Jr., Raymond Begay Jr., Patrick Begay, Harris Charley, Alvin Charley and James Yazzie.
Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Begay Sr., Leonard Haskie, Glen Duncan, Larry Duncan and Emerson Begay.
A reception will follow at Sanostee multi-purpose building.
