Delando Ray King, 35, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Shiprock, passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, in Washington, D.C.
He was born April 8, 1975, in Farmington to Sawnt G. Nelson and Pat Skyking.
He graduated from Shiprock High School in 1993, attended the University of Arizona for one year then transferred to DeVry University where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Delando loved to go the gym, eat healthy and enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with his friends and co-workers.
He was a dedicated worker and worked for U.S. Indian Health Service in Rockville, Md., as a travel management specialist.
He loved his job dearly, especially his co-workers Anne, Val and Jason. He was happy and loved so many dearly. He found what he spent years looking for happiness (Mani).
Delando is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Sam Garnenez Sr. and Jean H. Garnenez; uncles Sam Garnenez Jr. and Curtis Garnenez Sr.; cousins Shannon Garnenez, Gerry Garnenez and Kaniah Garnenez.
He is survived by his father, Pat Skyking; mother, Sawnt G. Nelson; sisters, JeEtta R. King and Chiashonya Nelson; brother, Albert Nelson III, and fiancee, Allie Curley; aunt Mary J. Woody; uncles Terry Garnenez, Lavone and Carrie Garnenez, Lorenzo Garnenez, Alvis and LuAnn Garnenez and Melvin Garnenez; special friend Manville Chan of Washington, D.C., numerous cousins who were like brothers and sisters he loved dearly; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and loving friends throughout the United States.
Visitation takes place 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel of Shiprock, North U.S. 491, (505) 368-4607.
Rosary takes place at 9:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Christ The King Catholic Church, U.S. 64 Box 610 in Shiprock.
Interment takes place at the Shiprock Community Cemetery following a celebration of life at Shiprock Chapter House.
Pallbearers are Harlen Begaye, Jason Begay, Nate Begay, Jimmie Garnenez Jr., Shane D. Garnenez, Shelbert John, Hoskie Walter Jr. and Tom Chee III.
Honorary pallbearers are his parents, sisters, brother, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Delando is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home of Shiprock.

Sister, we all cried together when we lost our greatist treasure your son Lando. The Creator has call upon Lando to come home, he has cross the River into Paradise and met family members .

Delando is my greatest influence to be the best at what i do. To achieve a goal build dreams and enlighten hearts thru humor. My brother was very smart bright caring and lovable. His gift to the world was laughter and touching ur heart with memories that last a lifetime. Blessed us with his Presents for a short time but impacted many lives, thru business colleages friends however made you all feel like family. I was shocked to hear about Delando's passing. I couldn't believe this wonderful man was really gone. He was a joy to work with when he worked out at the mine. He was always full of enery and made us laugh - all the time! I will cherish the moments we had at work and outside of work. And all his crazy stories and the way he laughed; and his crazy "sayings" that he always said. He was definately the "Life of the Party!" It was truly a pleasure to have known him. I pray that God will continue to bless and heal his family through this difficult time.

I did not know Delando personally, but he touched so many hearts throughout IHS country and beyond. He was the go-to person for answers to travel questions. I am so sorry to hear about Delando's death. I have worked close to Delando for the last few years and visit with him at our travel workshops. Delando, I will remember you every time I drink a Sonic drink. I'll toast your spirit with my Cherry Limeades. The most important part of the marker on your grave will be the "Dash" between the years. You lived a lot and gave a lot during that dash. Your life was too short, but very full. I'm so glad you found your happiness, many others never do. You will be missed.

I am with the moving company that moved Delando from Shiprock to Rockville several years ago. Delando was our contact @ IHS. I loved to talk with him and hear about his adventures. I met him in person last year but spoke to him on the phone often for several years. His laugh and positive attutude was contagious! I hope his family finds comfort in knowing he was loved by all of us that worked with him. Rest in peace Delando, you will be missed.

We only met the first time in June at our Quincy Court rooftop party but Delando and Manville made me laugh and were so much fun. I was so glad they were my neighbors.
