John Dale Roe Sr., 91, of Farmington passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. He was born to John Martindale Roe and Helen Elizabeth King Roe, Oct. 29, 1922, in Casper, Wyo.
He graduated from high school in Craig, Colo., and was attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., when World War II began, at which time he joined the US Navy. He became an Electrician's Mate 3c. He also operated an LCT-930 landing craft during beach clearing operations and manned a 12mm gun during air attacks. His fleet operated in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as supply ships. John was extremely proud to have served his country. After the war ended he met and married Clara Rowena (Ronnie) Reding on February 2, 1947 in Riverton, Wyoming.
John worked for Brinkerhoff Drilling Co. and moved with the Company to Farmington in 1959. John and Ronnie liked Farmington and decided to settle down and raise their three boys. John also worked for Loffland Brothers, Arapaho, and LLL Drilling Companies. He worked as a driller most of his career and he retired in 1985.
He and Ronnie were avid rock hunters and members of the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Society. John loved to hunt and fish and in his later years loved to feed and watch birds and fly his American Flag. He was especially proud of his American Flag that was flown in his honor over Camp Stone in Herat, Afghanistan while his Grandson-in-law Steve Deeb was stationed there during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a hard worker, a great story teller, and always provided for his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister Helen Bond of Worland, WY, sons John Roe Jr. (Debbie), Allen Roe (Nancy), and Tom Roe (Glenda) all of Farmington. Grandchildren: Shellee Deeb (Steve), Matthew Roe, Mechel Watts (Aaron), Brian Roe (Kathleen), and Shannon Harrell (Will), Melissa Pavey (Michael) and Nathan Evans (Laura). Great grandchildren, Elizabeth Deeb, Nathan & Bradley Roe, Austin & Quiahna Otero and Draven & Eli Watts, Lillianna Roe, Maddisson & Brian Pavey, and JT, Ethan & Lani Evans as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
