Bertha Irma "Shorty" (Vera) Torres Obituary
Bertha "Shorty" Irma Torres was born March 24, 1944, to Manuel and Alta Aurelio Vera in El Paso, Texas. She passed away on April 21, 2014, at her home with her family members beside her. Bertha married Richard Torres Sr. and out of this marriage had four wonderful sons. Shorty moved to Farmington in 1978 and has lived in Lee Acres for 35 years. Shorty loved to work at the church and taught CCD classes at St. Mary's Catholic Church. For fun, she liked casinos, bingo and visiting with family and friends. But her best accomplishment was being a great wife, mother and friend. She will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and her sisters, Velia Ortega and Emma Vera.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Torres Jr., Robert Torres, Raul (Michelle) Torres and Raymond Torres and step-son, Daniel Simpson; sisters, Nena Vera, Rosie Melendez,
Licha Vera and Tencha Liggins; and grandchildren, Danny Torres, Randy Torres, Brandon Torres, Emma Torres, Valerie Torres and Alyssa Rials.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church 2100 E. 20th Street in Farmington.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday April 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 414 N. Allen Ave. in Farmington, with Father Tim Farrell as celebrant. Burial will be follow in Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
