April 19, 1923-April 1, 2013

Passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 just 18 days before his 90th birthday at his home in Bloomfield. Bill was born on April 19, 1923 in a tent on the family farm a short distance from his home of 65 years.
He attended grade school in Bloomfield and graduated from Aztec High School in 1941. He went to the New Mexico University in Las Cruces but joined the Air Force prior to graduation. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1945. He returned home and worked on the family farm which included one of the first oil refineries in the county, until the oil boom, when he went to work hauling water to the rigs with a fleet of trucks.
He later went into the construction business with his brother Wilbur. He constructed many of areas the irrigation ditch siphons, which are still operating today. He also installed a large number of water and sewer mains in subdivisions and trailer parks which are still in use. He and his brothers built the Hesperus Ski Area for the family when they found it was too far to go to indulge a favorite off season recreation. They soon found there was a lot of interest and opened the ski area for the public. He later built many of the Wolf Creek Ski Area's early ski lifts.
Bill was always working and continued in the construction industry and inspecting various projects until 2002 when he retired after being diagnosed with Alzheimers. Even in retirement he continued working around his home doing yard work and various improvements.
