Edwardo "Ted" Teodoro Jaquez, 87, of Powhatan, Va., passed away on Nov. 6, 2013. A member of the greatest generation, Mr. Jaquez was born in Aztec on Oct. 26, 1926, to Bert and Virginia Jaquez, a pioneer San Juan County family.

He was the youngest and last surviving of seven children. He attended Aztec High School, where he was a multi-sport letterman and a state champion half miler. In 1944, at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Casablanca until World War II ended. He was discharged in 1946 in Richmond, where he met and married his first wife, Margaree Narron. In the 1950s, he started Jaquez Concrete Contractors. He continued in the construction industry until retiring in 2001. In 2009, he was widowed by his second wife, Vanessa Wendel, to whom he was happily married for 37 years. Mr. Jaquez is survived by his children, Vincent Narron (Martha), Michael Narron, Ted Jaquez Jr. (Laura), Chris Jaquez (Becky), Susan Disse (Ronnie) and Dickie Wendel (Alicia); 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, Rita Jaquez Arnold and Cheryl Gonzale,s and numerous cousins and relatives in San Juan County.
He enjoyed returning to the area for reunions and to visit family.
