Ernest Martinez, 78, of Farmington, passed away after a short battle with lung cancer on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in Farmington.. He was born May 22, 1935, in Gobernador to Jose Francisco Martinez and Maria Eulemia Garcia.
Ernest lived in Gobernador until he moved to Aztec as a small boy. He graduated from Aztec High School in 1956. Ernest was a master plumber all of his life, and, in 1974, he started Home Plumbing & Heating, which is still operating today.
He had a friendly, out-going personality. He always had a positive outlook on life, and that was clear to friends and strangers alike. We thank the good Lord for blessing us by this good man being a part of our lives. He loved his family and raised his children with love and integrity as a friend, father and role model. He will always be remembered.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Francisco Martinez and Maria Eulemia Garcia; his sisters, Margaret Maestas of Aztec; and brother, Joe "Red" Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Cecil DeAnca Martinez of Farmington; sons, Ernest Jr. (Sharon) and Frank (Laurie), both of Aztec; daughter, Rita (Ernie) Rudarte of Aztec; sister, Lucella Gonzalez of Farmington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Aztec. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Aztec with Father Kingsley George Obilonu officiating. Internment will follow the Mass at Aztec Cemetery. A reception will take place after the burial on Monday, Oct. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church's Parish Hall in Aztec.
