Harold M. Lampton
Harold M. Lampton was born in 1920 to parents Leo and Sadie Lampton in Farmington. He left this earthly life with his children at his side in the home he built himself.
He was the middle child of five and spent most of his life in Farmington, observing immense change over his 93 years. Harold had various jobs in his youth, from catching and selling fish before school to fighting forest fires in Mesa Verde at age fourteen.
Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy the month after Pearl Harbor was attacked, just as WWII began. After returning from the war Harold met and married his wife, Billie. They had four children; Catherine, Bobby, Cindy and Kerby.
He worked for Mountain Bell Telephone for 41 years before retiring. He was involved in the community, serving as president of the Kiwanis club and also on Farmington's hospital board in the 60's.
Harold loved being outdoors, fly fishing, elk and deer hunting, traveling and gardening (to be on the list to purchase his grapes was a tasty reward for a special few).
He was most proud of his wife and family, and did all he could to ensure a safe and stable life for them. Honesty, hard work and dependability were traits he taught.
Harold's life also had its share of pain and struggle. He and Billie lost their son, Bobby, at age 12, in a tragic accident. Later, Billie needed his constant care. Through these trials, he proved to be a man of tenderness, devotion, loyalty and quiet strength as his family witnessed his many years of love and devotion to his wife.
His time was the greatest gift he gave to his family. Harold taught them, loved them and was the greatest example for them. He is now happily joined again with Billie in peace and rest.
Harold was preceded in death by his son Robert Harold "Bobby"; his dear wife, Billie; grandson, Kevin Hesser; great-grandson, Shane Burgess; his sisters, Lucille Handley, Marion Brown, Pauline Fielding and Ruth Wethington and many other friends and loved ones.
Harold leaves behind his children, Catherine, Cindy Brush (Jay) and Kerby Lampton (Lynnette); 10 grandchildren, Brian Hesser (Maurice), Denise Hesser, Keith Hesser, Liz Hesser, Shannon Burgess (Wade), Jason Ashcroft (Elda), Aaron Ashcroft (Amber), Loron Ashcroft (Megan), Gavin Lampton and Lynnee Lampton; 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Harold will always be loved because of the wonderful man that he was.
A special thanks to Dr. Robert Burns, long-time family physician, for the special gift of his time during Harold's last few days.
Cremation has taken place and a grave side service will be held at Memory Gardens for family and friends.
Harold's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington 505-325-8688.
