James "Jim" Clyde Petrie, 74, of Laramie, Wyo., passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Jim was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Clyde and Cynthia Petrie. He attended school there until he enrolled in the University of Wyoming. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie (Woodley) Petrie, in 1960. Then he graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He went on to earn his master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Idaho. Jim and Connie were blessed with three wonderful sons.
Throughout his career, Jim worked in nuclear energy, food, pulp and paper, power generation, fine chemicals and environmental issues. Jim avidly supported the Wyoming "pokes" Cowboys and the Denver Broncos. The family lived in several different locations, where he enjoyed fishing with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Connie Petrie, of Laramie, and his three sons and their families, Mike and Julie Petrie of Farmington, Mark and Sheryl Petrie of Albuquerque and Matt and Amie Petrie of Evanston, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean Roberts; and his grandparents.
