James "J.D." Delbert Harmon, 83, of Farmington, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in Farmington. He was born April 7, 1930, in Robert Lee, Texas, to Delbert Calaway Harmon and Alla Mae Cobb.
He graduated from Hobbs High School, where he was a member of the state champs football team. He also left numerous track records -- many held for 40 years. He was a Korean War veteran and was honorably discharged in 1952.
J.D. married Jeanne Allen on March 3, 1952. They had two children, James Allen Harmon and Cynthia "Cindy" Jeannne Harmon. They moved to Farmington in the late 1950s and established Allstate Trucking and Allstate Transit Mix. J.D. was active in the community, serving as Grand Master for IOOF 24.
His hobbies included water and snow skiing, pheasant hunting with his grandson and teaching his grandchildren the fine art of "Grease Monkey" and golf.
J.D. enjoyed a lifetime of memories with Jeanne until Feb. 24, 1988, when Jeanne lost a courageous battle with cancer.
He then remarried, July 2, 1988, to Dana Gregory. J.D. and Dana were married for 25 years. J.D. loved life and will be greatly missed.
J.D. is survived by his son, James Allen Harmon; daughter, Cindy (Randy) Specht; his brother, Doug (Donna) Harmon; grandchildren, Brandy (Dean) Brown, Jamie (Mike) Mead and Kota (Ashley) Jensen; step-children, Kim Gregory and family, Paul (Cheryl) Gregory and David (Cheryl Ann) Gregory; and great-grandchildren, Bella Danek and Noah Danek.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
A visitation will be at 2 to 4 p.m. today at Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at Piñon Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5001 Foothills Drive in Farmington. Pastor Wayne Gayton will officiate.
Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington.
A reception will follow at the church.
Pallbearers are Ivan Nanneman, James Stacener, Mike Mead, Dean Brown, Jerry Hughes and Roger Enser.
Honorary pallbearers are Winston Cole and Dub Shockley.
