Joe E. (Gustavo) Martinez, 78, of Farmington, went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. He was born April 4, 1935, in Cuba, to Celso Martinez and Marta Moreno-Martinez. He grew up in Vallecito and Cuba and moved to Farmington in 1960 with his lovely wife and family.
Joe worked in the oilfield and as a carpenter for Local 1319. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and maintaining an immaculate yard. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friend,s Mike and Nancy Rascon. He loved his family and God more than anything and told us daily how "blessed we are!" He lived and loved life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elisa; son, Timmy Martinez (Anita); daughters, Mary Jo Martinez-Aragon (Elias Leyva), Barbara Padilla (Carl) and Christy Rascon (Ernie); brothers, Zebedeo Martinez (Velma), Antonio Martinez and Celso Martinez (Florence); sisters, Fabiola Cde Baca (Ramon) and Connie Martinez (Tony); eight grandchildren, Mandy Snow (Mattie), Timothy Martinez, Valerie Ferrari (Brandon), Caleb Padilla, Jared Padilla, Marion Padilla, Lisa Aragon (Cameron Cribbs) and Nikki Martinez; five great grandchildren, Gaige Snow, Ally Snow, Vin Ferrari, Raven Ferrari and Uriah Cribbs; and one great-great grandchild, Eli Snow.
Joe was preceded in death by a son, Joseph (Joey) Martinez; his parents, Celso Martinez and Marta Moreno-Martinez; and his brothers, Roy Martinez and Andronico Martinez.
A rosary will recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 414 North Allen Ave. in Farmington.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
A reception will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Center.
