Kathryn Mercedes Domme, 89, known to her family and friends as Peachie, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014. Peachie was born on March 29, 1925, in Emmett, Kan.
In 1940, her family moved to Topeka, Kan., where she grew up helping in the family grocery store. She graduated from Capital Catholic High School in 1942 and then attended Business College in Topeka. Peachie and Edward were married in 1946 in Topeka, and the family moved to Albuquerque in 1948. Together, they raised their five sons and created a full life surrounded by family and many close friends. Peachie and Ed were members of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish from its beginning in 1953 until the present. She was very active at Assumption Church and grade school and later at St. Pius High School. In 1961, Peachie went to work at Sandia Savings and Loan and retired as an Executive Secretary. She then earned her Real Estate Broker's license and worked in Real Estate for many years with Hooten and Stahl Realtors. In the 1970s, she owned her own Home Rental and Management Agency until retirement in 1979. Peachie enjoyed bowling, golf and was well known for her bridge play. She is especially remembered for her loving care of her husband, Ed, during his long illness preceding his death.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Domme; her parents, Thomas and Lillian Kennedy of Topeka, Kan.; and her daughter-in-law, Susan Domme. Peachie is survived by her brother, Ret Gen Thomas Kennedy and wife Ruth; her sister, Frances "Dollie" Peter; and by her five sons, Craig, Fr. Edward Domme, Dan and wife Colleen, Tom and wife Martha, and Jack and wife Karen; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday May 8, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 811 Guaymas NE, Albuquerque.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Assumption Parish. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Home Instead and Presbyterian Hospice for all their support and care for our mother.
