Morris George, 87, of Mitten Rock, passed from this life Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in Shiprock. He was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Red Rock, Ariz., to Allen and Hosteen Nez Bitsi'.
Our husband, father, cheii, nalii', brother, uncle and friend will be greatly missed. He was a well-known carpenter in the community of Mitten Rock and Red Valley, Ariz. and surrounding areas. He was also known for his work on the railroad with the Union Pacific and as a uranium mine worker in Cove, Ariz.; Rico, Colo. and various states. The latter part of his life he volunteered his time as a Foster Grandparent at Red Rock Day School.
He is survived by his wife Nellie George; sons, Jeffery George, Deswood George and Herman George; daughters, Marie George Begay, Esther Johnson, Mary Rose King, Irene George and Rose Ann Nelson; sisters, Ida Walters, Nyla George, Grace George and Lena Nakai; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen George and Hosteen Nez Bitsi'; daughter Lorraine Van Winkle; sons, Jimmy George, Larry George and Wilbert Johnson; brothers, Johnny George, Henry George and William George; sisters, Margaret Williams, Barbara Benally and Helen Etcitty; and grandson Derrick George.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Shiprock. Evangelist Larry Howard will officiate. Interment will follow in the Red Valley Community Cemetery, Red Valley, Ariz. Morris is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home, North U.S. Highway 491, in Shiprock, 505-368-4607.
