Nellie T. Atson, 83, of Shiprock, passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013. She was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Sheep Springs, to Nasbah Tsosie. She was born to the Salt Water Clan.

Nellie was married to Harris Atson for 65 years. She enjoyed weaving, sewing, making sashbelts and cooking, and she enjoyed the holidays with the family.
She always put her children and grandchildren first. She was known for her hugs and kisses. The grandkids have fond memories of her bouncing them on her lap. She supported and encouraged everyone she knew.
Nellie traveled many places and always listened to Navajo hymns and country music on KNDN. She was soft-spoken, gentle-hearted and loved God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. She will be missed dearly.

Nellie was preceded in death by her son, Larry Atson; daughter, Sharon Atson; mother; brother, Stepford Tsosie; sisters, Annie Etcitty and Nora Manuelito; and one grandson, Jeremy Atson.
She is survived by her sons, Floyd Atson (Christine), Clay Atson (Sarah), Al Atson (Cindy), Gilbert Atson, Wilford Atson (Lorraine) and Robert Atson; daughters, Marilyn Atson, Leigh Johnson (Ferguson), Shirley Chester (Bob), Cheryl Tyler (Victor) and Elaine Atson; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at the Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Piñon Hills Community Church, 5101 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, officiated by Eric Lee.
Burial will follow service in Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
Reception will be at the church.
Pallbearers are Gilbert Atson, Marcus Atson, Joel Atson, Elijah Atson, Ryan Atson and Rhaenon Johnson.
