Perry Garnenez, 85, of Shiprock, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, in Shiprock. He was born Jan. 23, 1928, to Natoni and Anna Garnenez. He was born to Many Hogans and born for the Tangle People.
Perry attended the Ignacio Ute Vocational School, Ft. Lewis College, San Juan College, and Eastern New Mexico and holds an AS degree and a BBA degree. He was employed as a gas station attendant, security guard, rancher, farmer, investigator, advocate, ONEO-Navajo Housing Authority, Shiprock DNA attorney, Uranium hauler for Kerr McGee, Shiprock Chapter President; and retired as Shiprock District Judge.
Perry was a member of the Dine Water Association, Farm Land Board, IHS Health Board and the school board.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed farming and ranching, reading, traveling, watch favorite movies and sports, fishing, spending time with family and friends, presenter, writer, helping others, and other numerous hobbies.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sam Garnenez.
He is survived by his wife, Ellinda Mae Garnenez; sons, Timothy Garnenez Sr. (Barbara), Junie Garnenez (Thitirat), Perryen Garnenez (Aminia); daughters, Pennye Valade (Fredrick), Lonna Harwood (Herbert), Amanda Mariano (Vincent Sr.), Edwina Garcia (Ignacio) and Mahalia Garnenez; brothers, Henry Garnenez Sr. and Jimmie Garnenez Sr.; sisters, Mae Denetclaw and Fannie Collins; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 18, at Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Shiprock.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the church, with father Patrick McQuire as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Shiprock Veteran's Cemetery.
Reception will follow the burial in the parish hall of the church.
Pallbearers are Timothy N. Garnenez Sr., Junie A. Garnenez, Perryen N. Garnenez, Fredrick Valade, Herbert Harwood and Jimmy Garnenez Jr.
