Roger Sherrel Cox Obituary
Roger Sherrel Cox
Feb. 10, 1931-April 5, 2013

Roger Sherrel Cox passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2013. He went peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born February 10, 1931 in Cortez, Colo. to Hendrix Candler and Elizabeth Lucretia Cox.
Roger married Elizabeth Cannon (Dee Dee) on May 24, 1980 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He happily served as a High Priest, in a bishopric, as Young Men's leader, and five years in the New Mexico LDS mission presidency. He loved his Tuesday mornings working at the Albuquerque temple.
Roger and Dee Dee found joy researching his family history by traveling to Tennessee, Missouri and Oklahoma, where ancestors had lived. He was raised on the Navajo reservation where he grew to love the Navajo people. He mastered the language and loved speaking to all the Navajo's he encountered.
Roger graduated from Farmington high school where he was named to the Hall of Fame. He attended his beloved University of New Mexico on a football scholarship, and was inducted into the UNM Hall of Honor. He was the most loyal Lobo fan in the state of New Mexico.
Roger was not only a classic example of a self-made man, but was also one of the key figures in the evolution of the New Mexico real estate business. Along with the love of work and making a deal, he enjoyed being surrounded by his family.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bart Cox and granddaughter, Charlotte Miera.
He is survived by his wife, Dee Dee; six children, Janice (Brian) Anderson, Elizabeth Cox, Anthony (Karen) Cox, Sabrina (Jeremy) Lovejoy, Jacob (Sara) Cox and Anne Marie (Joshua) Hiatt; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister, Sherrie (Tom) Diediker.
Roger founded Roger Cox and Associates Real Estate Brokerage, which has recently celebrated 50 years strong. He has served as President of the Realtor Association of New Mexico and was the very first realtor in New Mexico to attain the prestigious CCIM designation in 1968. He also held the title of Realtor of the year in both Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. He was past president of RANM, the director of National Association of Realtors, state highway commissioner, past president of the UNM Lobo Club and all conference end for the University of New Mexico. An achievement of which he was very proud was being developer of PAA-KO communities and PAA-KO Ridge golf club. Roger was a guiding light in the real estate industry.
He also served his country in the United States Army.
There will be a viewing 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, San Victorio Chapel, 11750 San Victorio Ave. NE in Albuquerque.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, at the San Victorio Chapel, with Bishop Mike Davis of the East Ridge Ward conducting.
