Veloy Helquist Hawkins, 84, of Bloomfield was called home to our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 7, 2013 at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Veloy was born June 17, 1928 in Blanding, Utah to John Olaf Helquist and Beatrice (Baily) Helquist.
She married Phil Hawkins on January 11, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah; they were later sealed in the Church of Latter-day Saints, Manti Temple on May 11, 1962.
Phil and Veloy lived in Blanding, Utah, Gunnison, Colo., Utah and Farmington.
Veloy worked for a short time at Carlyle Manufacturing, she helped manage the Shamrock Service Station in Bloomfield. She also worked at Child Care Castle doing what she done best, caring for the infants.
Veloy loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Veloy is survived by 10 sons and daughters, Terry (Kathy), Shauna (Ron Apple), Gary (Bonnie), Jeff, John (Louise) Sue (Tom Hill) Bloomfield, Sharon (Don Gilge), of Mesa, Ariz., Dennis (Nancy), of Apache Junction, Ariz. , Debra (Ron Barney) Logandale, Nev., Phylis (Andy Sanchez) Aztec; 35 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother. Veloy was preceded in death by a brother; sister and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., today, Tuesday, June 11, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St., in Farmington..
Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12,. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bloomfield Stake Center, 804 W. Blanco Blvd. in Bloomfield, with Bishop Delbert Sexton conducting.
Burial will follow in East Hammond Cemetery in Bloomfield.
She will be greatly missed.
