Ilene Lavonne (Garver) Steele Obituary
Ilene Lavonne Steele was born in Kincaid, Kan., on Feb. 17, 1925, to Lester and Cora (Hufferd) Garver.
Her eighth-grade education was cut short because of rheumatoid fever. She worked during the war years in a laundry, then in a meat packing plant. She married Kenneth Kirbie Steele and they were married for 56 years. Ilene loved to sew and made all of her children's school clothes.
Crocheting, fishing and cooking were her hobbies. Her signature dish was fried chicken followed closely by roast beef with homemade noodles for Sunday family dinners. Kenneth and Ilene traveled throughout the United States for Kenneth's work as a pipe liner allowing them to do that. But they always considered Bloomfield as their home where they spent their retirement years.
Ilene was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Kirbie Steele; her parents; brother Lester (Junior) Garver; her grandchildren, Todd Donell Rosenbaum and Todd Robert Rosenbaum (great-grandson).
She is survived by her two children, Kenneth W. Steele and Dixie Lee Steele (Mrs. Charles Barron); brother Robert Garver; grandchildren, Troy Rosenbaum, Tonja Yakovich, Steven Steele, Darren Steele, and Amanda Thomas; 13 grandchildren;
and six great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington.
