Claudena June Bonawitz

Claudena June Bonawitz, 83, of Farmington, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 after a short illness. She was born April 13, 1930 in Morrisville, Pa., to Mary and Walt Holzworth.
She attended Halifax High School in Dauphin Co., Pa. She married Elmer C. Bonawitz Dec. 3, 1948 in Elizabethville, Pa. The couple had two sons, Wayne and Bruce, before moving to Whittier, Calif., in 1953.
June and Elmer had three more children, Rebecca, David and Melanie. When her children were young, June was active in the PTA and taught Sunday school at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. She also served as a poll worker for the Democratic Party for many years. She and her sister, Martha, spent many memorable summers taking their kids, a total of nine, loaded into a 1959 station wagon and went on camping trips to the High Sierras.
June and Elmer moved to Farmington in 1991. She enjoyed being a housewife, reading, and playing dominoes and cards. She was a good storyteller and will be remembered for her lively sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer; sons, Wayne (Debra), of Thornton, Colo., Bruce and David of Farmington; daughters, Rebecca Bonawitz and Melanie (Don) Brown, both of Farmington; brother, Butch (Kay) Holzworth, of Grass Valley, Calif., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and two on the way.
