Miss Ellie Jane Thompson, 84, of Farmington, danced her way home on Sunday, July 28, 2013. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Aug. 24, 1929, to Fannie Belle and Dewey Udell Williams, in Blount County, Ala. Miss Ellie was well-known and loved in the community. She was very active in the VFW Post 2182 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a life member, as well as the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. She loved music, dancing, hard work and all of her heathens and friends. She always said everyone called her Miss Ellie, although she never missed a thing and those who loved her knew that to be true. Miss Ellie was always there for everyone she loved.
Miss Ellie grew up picking cotton in Dyess, Ark., with her family alongside the Cash brothers. She worked at a young age in a battery factory to support the World War II efforts.
Miss Ellie had six children, Tom (Jean), Danny, Ted (Susie), Roger McKay, Linda (Butch) Granito and Janie (Sandi) Thompson and two step-sons, Lonnie and Eugene (Denise) Thompson.
Miss Ellie married Shorty Thompson on April 1, 1977. She and Shorty loved to claim that if their marriage didn't work they could say it was only an April Fool's joke. They enjoyed 34 years of happy marriage during which they ran Thompson Well Drilling and Vacuum Truck Service together before she lost Shorty in 2012. We know they are dancing together again. She also enjoyed her nine grandchildren, spouses and 10 great-grandchildren.
Miss Ellie will be missed, and the world will be less without her in it.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Guardian Angel Hospice in Miss Ellie's name would be appreciated.
A service will be 10 a.m. today at Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, followed by graveside services in Memory Gardens of Farmington. A luncheon will follow at the VFW Post No. 2182, 5513 U.S. Highway 64 in Farmington, courtesy of the Ladies' Auxiliary.
Miss Ellie's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington St. in Farmington, 505-327-5142. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com.
