Elsie Marquez Giron, 86, of Farmington went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013. She was born to Albert and Anita Gomez in Alamosa, Colo.
In her early years Elsie worked at Alamosa Hospital and then took a nursing position with San Juan Regional Medical Center as well as the San Juan Manor. Elsie enjoyed her family, sewing, crocheting, and most of all going to church. She loved cooking so much that she won a cooking contest presented by the New Mexico Gas Company and she also placed many times in the county fair for her cooking and crocheting. Elsie was a member of the Spanish Assembly of God church, and dedicated her life to the children and woman ministries, she was currently an active and faithful member of the New Life in Christ Church. She spent many years in the ministry with her husband in Colorado and New Mexico pastoring numerous churches in these states, Elsie was also gifted musically, as well as a great voice for singing.
Elsie was preceded in death by her first husband Reverend Frank Marquez and her late husband, the Rev. Jose Giron and her daughter, Marvine Marquez as well as her mother and father and sisters, Viola Oliveras, Erlinda Kenter, Lorraine Mascarenas and Ruth Zimmerle and one granddaughter, Nicole Marquez, brothers Sam, Robert, Ben and Albert Gomez.
Elsie leaves behind her son, Phil, Reverend Stephen Marquez and wife, Nikki, Mark Marquez and wife, Cindy; daughter, Rita Marquez; sisters, Irene Espinosa and Neoma Moraga. Elsie also had five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held in memory of Elsie from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the New Life in Christ Church, 1108 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington.
Funeral services for Elsie will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the New Life in Christ Church with her son, Reverend Stephen Marquez officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6017 East Main St., in Farmington.
