Edison Ambrose Hobbs, 93, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. He formerly resided in Chesapeake, Va., for many years while working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. he served honorably during World War II. As a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church, Edison and his brother sang in churches throughout Virginia and North Carolina. Edison was preceded in rest by his parents, Ambrose and Anna Hobbs; his first wife, Mabel Bunch Hobbs; his sister, Elsie Hobbs Lassiter; his two brothers, Albert Hobbs and W.D. Hobbs. Survivors include his wife, Lessie Benton Hobbs; brother Wendell Hobbs; and sister-in-law, Annie Lee Hobbs. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews; as well as six step-children. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by Reverend Karen Whitehurst. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honor.
