Hampton Va. resident

Johnny Johnson Sr., 63, of 328 Locust Ave., Hampton, Va., died Sept. 18, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at noon at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Johnson delivering the eulogy and Deborah Poole officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at 423 Esclip Rd. in Weeksville. Stallings Funeral Home of Elizabeth City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Johnson graduated from Northeastern High School, where he played football. He attended North Carolina Central in Durham and played football at the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va. He worked at New Port News Shipbuilding. Mr. Johnson was the son of the Rev. George Johnson Sr. and the late Addie Mae Skinner Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth T. Johnson Johnson. Other survivors include two sons, Aaron N. Johnson Sr. (Tracy) of Hampton, Va. and Johnny Johnson Jr. of Lumberton; eight sisters, Erlene Whidbee, Janice Jones (Oliver), Bobbie Thomas, Wanda Johnson, Evangeline Johnson and Vickie Johnson, all of Elizabeth City, Carolyn Banks (James) of Fayetteville and Margret Morgan of Chesapeake, Va.; seven brothers, George Johnson Jr. of Kansas City, Miss., Elbert Johnson, Reginald Johnson (Juanita) and Cleveland Johnson, all of Elizabeth City, Ronlee Overton (Denise), Tyler Overton (Deloris) of Augusta Ga. and Donnell Roberson (Olga) of Gaithersburg Md.; three grandchildren, Aaron N. Johnson Jr., Mercedez Johnson and Tyrek Stokley; nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
