Kathleen Jordan Byrum, 85, of 738 Sandy Ridge Road, Tyner, died Wednesday, April 20, at Chowan Hospital Skilled Unit. Mrs. Byrum was born in Chowan County, a daughter of the late Daniel "Dank" Edward and Ella Byrum Jordan. She was married to the late Melvin Byrum Sr.
Mrs. Byrum worked with Albemarle Hospice as a caregiver for several years and was a member of Albemarle Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Center Hill Baptist Church for many years. She also once belonged to the Center Hill Home Demonstration Club.
Surviving Mrs. Byrum is a daughter, Linda Byrum White, and her husband, Tim, of Tyner; a son, Melvin "Al" Byrum and his wife, Kathy, of Elizabeth City; four grandchildren, Jay White and his wife, Lori, Nicole White Flynn and her husband, William, Lisa Byrum DeCastillia and her husband, John, and Chris Byrum and his wife, Tammy; ten great-grandchildren; and a very special sister in law, Pat Jordan.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
A Celebration of Mrs. Byrum's life will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Russell Blanchard and Rev. Don English officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family today, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Linda and Tim White, 738 Sandy Ridge Road, Tyner.
