Elizabeth City resident
Luella Cartwright was born on Aug. 8, 1928 in Elizabeth City, to the late Mark Cartwright Sr. and Isadora Newby Cartwright. She departed her life on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at Winslow Memorial Nursing Home.
Luella moved to Bimington, N.Y. at an early age where she did housework. She was then baptized at Beautiful Plain Baptist Church on Sept. 10, 1967. She later returned back to Elizabeth City. She continued to do housework for the late James (Big Apple) and Janie Mae Turner, where she helped raise their kids for thirty one years. Ms. Lue loved the kids.
She leaves her memories to three girls, Pamala Poole (Albert) of Newport News, Va., Lottie Belton (Alex) of Richmond, Va. and Carla Bass (George) of Clayton; three boys, Timoth Turner (Nisha) of Elizabeth City, Roosevelt Williams (Lashonda) of Woodbridge, Va. and Emanuel Williams of Suffolk, Va.; one special daughter, Cheryl Bowe (Keith) of Elizabeth City; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ms. Lue was a quiet, small person with a big generous heart. Nothing was ever asked of her that she wouldn't do for another.
The family will receive family and friends at her residence, 786 Oak Stump Rd., Elizabeth City.
Funeral services will be held at Stallings Funeral Home, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roscoe Poole as Eulogist and Rev. Mrs. Nellie Poole, officiating. Burial at Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
