Millicent Oakes Jordan, formerly of the 200 block of Yeopim Road, died Monday, March 14, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hertford, at the age of 87.
She was born in Knox County, Reckland, Maine, a daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Staples Jordan and was married to the late William Edward Jordan.
Mrs. Jordan was a loving, caring person. She loved helping people and this desire to help others led her to pursue a profession in the field of nursing, working as a LPN at Chowan Hospital and later with the Chowan Health Department in the Home Health Care program until she retired. She was a member of Yeopim Baptist Church, which she also loved.
Surviving Mrs. Jordan is a daughter, Cynthia Ann Jenkins, of Raleigh; two sons, Donald Jordan and his wife, Sherry, of Edenton and Robert Jordan and his wife, Patricia, of Durham; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and a granddaughter.
A Graveside service will be at 11 am, Friday, March 19, at Beaver Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joe Buck officiating. Friends may join the family at the visitation today, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
