Richard Wayne Pendleton, 54, of 781 Dry Ridge Road, Elizabeth City, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Pasquotank County, he was the son of Jackie Pendleton of Elizabeth City and the late Bradley Pendleton and was the husband of Vestel Boyce Pendleton. Mr. Pendleton was a man whose life was defined by his passionate love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; his relationship with God was evident throughout his life. He had been a member of Pearl Street Pentecostal Church his entire life. Mr. Pendleton's wife and children were the light of his life, which he filled with his love and gentle spirit. He was a farmer who loved tending the land and appreciated God's vast and beautiful creation.
In addition to his mother and his wife of twenty-six years, Mr. Pendleton is survived by a daughter, Caitlyn Gardner and husband, Trent; three sons, Joshua Pendleton, Joel Pendleton and Benjamin Pendleton; a brother, Glenn Pendleton and wife, Sharon; and four sisters, Vivian Livingston and husband, Ray, Donna Pendleton, Teresa Pendleton, all of Elizabeth City and Katie Pendleton of Tyner. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Pendleton.
A funeral service will take place Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Lowery officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel and at other times at the residence of Glenn and Sharon Pendleton, 785 Dry Ridge Road, Elizabeth City. The family suggests memorial donations to the Northeastern High School FFA, 963 Oak Stump Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
