Born in Normal Alabama, Herman L. Brown was the son of the late David Herman Brown and Lavada Miller.  He is preceded in death by both of his parents, a brother, Reginald Brown and a sister Kaye Brown.  He departed his earthly life on Nov. 20, 2010, at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. Celebration of Life for Dr. Brown will take place on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Community Church with burial following at New Oak Grove Cemetery. A Wake Service will be held on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Community Church. The family will receive family and friends at his residence, 469 New Rd, Elizabeth City. Brown completed his undergraduate studies at Alabama A&M University where he also played football for the AAMU bulldogs.  He was one of the most exceptional players in Alabama's football history. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was later inducted into the Alabama A&M University Football Hall of Fame for his accomplishments.  After graduating from AAMU, Brown continued his education, receiving an additional B.S. degree from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, a Master's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and doctorate degrees in mathematics and education from the University of Cincinnati. His experiences as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and Superintendent of Schools lead him to serve as Educational Consultant throughout the United States and in the Bahamas.  He devoted fifty two years of his life helping children to become lifelong learners. Herman is celebrated by Shirley, his wife of thirty two years; a daughter, Sheryl Bradford and son, Osmond Lister (Heather Lister), all of Elizabeth City; a daughter, Sherole Thrash (Maurice Thrash),  and son, Rickey Brown, all of Atlanta, Ga.;  son, Randy Brown and daughter, Renita Brown (Rickey), both of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia Gibson (Dr. Thomas Gibson) of Lakewood, Calif.; and Beverly Burrell (Walter Burrell),  of Los Angeles, California;  two brothers, Billy Brown (Barbara Brown), of Flint, Mich. and Michael Brown of Kentucky; and a special brother, Dr. Thomas (Elisa Webb) Webb of Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by his step-mother, Mrs. Alberta Brown, who resides in California.  Brown's also leaves several sister and brother-in-law's,  Shelton and Sandra Billups,  and Louise Turner, all of Elizabeth City, Edison and Ernestine Billups of Chesapeake, Va.,  and Marybell and Wills Barnett of Portsmouth, Va.; seven grandchildren,  Eric, Cameron, Kylan, and Kennedy Lister, all of Elizabeth City, and Justin, Tiffany and Brianna Brown all of Atlanta, Ga. He also leaves a God-child, Kaitlin Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends will who will continue to carry out his legacy.
