Hickory resident

Rae Seward Owens, 89, of 1125 10th Street Boulevard NW, Hickory, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at her residence. Born in Coryell County, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lesley Seward and the late Mary Malinda Powell and was the wife of the late Samuel Walker Owens. Mrs. Owens was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent many years serving in the Girl Scouts and as a school volunteer. Mrs. Owens is survived by her daughters, Malinda Coombs of Raleigh and Susan Jane Broadhead and husband, Mike, of Newnan, Ga.; sons, Clayton Owens and wife, Libby, of Waxhaw and Paul Owens and wife, Laura, of Hickory; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Frank Weeks officiating at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 600 West Ehringhaus Street, Elizabeth City. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Newbern Family Cemetery, Jarvisburg. Memorial donations may be made to the church Perpetual Education Fund, 600 West Ehringhaus Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
