Ruby Bateman Obituary
HERTFORD - Ruby Anne Bowden Bateman, 91, of 105 Charles Street, died Saturday, January 16, 2016 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mrs. Bateman was born in Suffolk, VA on December 21, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Ernest LaRoy and Mary Jones Bowden. A retired registered nurse, she was a member of Hertford Baptist Church, and had served the community in various capacities including having volunteered with the Perquimans County Rescue Squad for 14 years, the Newbold-White House, and as a reader with Perquimans County Schools. She had also served with the Army Nursing Corps during World War II. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon Oliver Bateman.
Surviving are her two sons, Sheldon "Shelly" Bateman and wife Donna of Clarksville, MD and Marshall Bateman of Hertford.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Gregory Clark. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Wednesday, and all other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Perquimans County Rescue Squad, PO Box 191, Hertford, NC 27944.
