ARCANUM — Donald L. Aikman, age 88, of Arcanum, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. Don had been a farmer and excavator for many years and was the owner/operator of Aikman Excavating. He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Faye (Cramer) Aikman, children: Donnie (Pat) Aikman of Dayton, Bill (Alice Wilson) Aikman of West Manchester, Linda (Rob) Kendig of Arcanum, Jill (Ron) Holzapfel of Greenville, Joe (Melissa) Aikman of New Madison, sister: Ruth (Carmine) Santoro of Centerville, grandchildren: Corey, Kellee, Clay, Maria, Adam, Nathan, Andrew, Cheyenne, Brady, Tyler, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Laurence and Opal (Fisher) Aikman, brothers: Paul and Duane Aikman, sisters: Dorothy Baron, Mabel Baker and Glenna Palmatter. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood). The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of services. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Association. GREENVILLE — Carolyn Jean Anderson, 70, of Greenville, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. She was born March 11, 1946, in Warren County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Herman and Nellie (Perry) Marcrum. In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her sisters, Melinda Beeman and Barbara Elsten, half-brother, James Marcrum and stepdaughter Debbie Perry. Carolyn enjoyed cooking meals for her family and friends. She also loved traveling with the carnival. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Samuel Anderson of Greenville; son, Mark and Crystal Deckard of Ohio; daughter, Barbara Burton of Indiana; stepsons, Samuel Anderson Jr. of New Hampshire, Richard and Mary Anderson of Massachusetts, and William Anderson of Connecticut; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, George Marcrum of Tennessee and Roy Marcrum of Indiana. GREENVILLE — Opal Marie Bayer, age 92, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away, Monday, June 27, 2016, at 6 a.m. at The Brethren Retirement Community. She was born March 15, 1924, in Darke County, Ohio, the oldest daughter of the late Vernon and Bertha (Rutrough) Garber. In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, George Bayer, her great-grandson, Micah Root, brothers, Virgil, Paul and Ezra Garber, sister-in-law, Donna Garber and brothers-in-law, Tom Klosterman and Harold Myers. Opal is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Isabel Bayer of Waterloo, Iowa; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Roger Denlinger of New Carlisle and Ann and Kent Brubaker of Sawyer, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Eva and Marvin Shuttleworth of Greenville and Ida Mae Klosterman of Greenville; sister-in-law, Mildred Garber of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Painter Creek Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 2996 Schnorf-Jones Road, Arcanum. Burial will follow in Newcomer Cemetery. Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brethren Retirement Community, in the New Chapel by the flagpole. CELINA — Carolyn L. Brandon, age 87, of Celina, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community with her family at her side. She was born on April 15, 1929, in Ansonia, Ohio, to the late Herbert E. and Esther (Martin) Roll. Carolyn was a member of the Erastus United Methodist Church, a member of the Mercer County and State Genealogy Association, American Legion Post #210 Auxiliary First Families of Ohio, First Families of Ohio and a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. Carolyn took great pride in being a farm wife and loved genealogy. On Oct. 23, 1948 she married Dale W. Brandon, who died Dec. 16, 1997. Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Joycelyn Brandon of Vandalia, Ken and Annette Brandon of Liberty Center, Steve Brandon of Celina, three daughters Janet Haisley of Celina, Mary Brandon of Celina and Ellen Brandon of Sidney, five grandchildren, Ann Becker, Corey Brandon, Ashley Brandon, Garret Brandon, Taylor Brandon, three great grandchildren, brother and sisters-in-law, Dwight and Barbara Roll of Port Clinton, Dola Roll of Greenville and Darlene Roll of Bellefontaine. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald, Byron and Nevin Roll, a stepgrandson Justin King, her sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Jesse Davis, and a son-in-law, Mike Haisley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Richard Van Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Swamp College Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour before services on Wednesday at the funeral Home. Carpenter, Irene Elizabeth  
MORAINE, Ohio — Irene Elizabeth Carpenter, age 80, of Moraine, Ohio, passed away, Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 10:10 a.m. at Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Moraine, OH. She lived most of her life in Greenville, OH from 1955 to 2012. She was born Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1935, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Bunyan and Della (Brown) Day. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald James Carpenter, whom she married May 28, 1955; and her son-in-law, Daniel Mason Summers; and five of her seven siblings. Irene was a simple and wholesome woman who was dedicated to her family and friends, and a devoted member of her church. Many people knew her as "The Hat Lady." She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and her legacy lives on through them. She will be truly missed. Irene is survived by three children, Pamela Summers of San Diego, California, James (Susie) Carpenter of Dublin, Ohio, and Christina Medrano of Moraine, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jerry Christopher Harrison of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Julia Christina Harrison of Fullerton, California; a brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Day of Ashland, Kentucky; and a sister, Gayla Schultz of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Joslin of Tipp City, Ohio, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville with Fr. John White officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. GREENVILLE — Thomas J. Fisherback, 65, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday June 27, 2016, at 8:16 a.m. at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. He was born Sept. 26, 1950, in New Madison, Ohio, the son of the late John B. and Neva J. (Lipps) Fisherback. He was an operating engineer for 39 ½ years. He was a member of Greenville Masonic Lodge # 143; American Legion; and Am vets. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Chad Fisherback; brother: Steven Fisherback. He is survived by his son: Mitch Fisherback; sisters: Susan McCabe, and Lori Fisherback; nieces and nephews: Katie, Jarrod, Lauren, Lindsey, and Tyler; numerous cousins, great-aunts and special friends. Services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be held on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. by the Greenville Masonic Lodge # 143. GREENVILLE — Roberta J. Harden age 60, of Greenville passed away at 8:34 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016, at her residence. Roberta was born May 21, 1956, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late William and Maddie Marie (Tidwell) Harmon. Roberta is survived by her husband, Earl "Jimmy" Harden; sister, Eloise Engle of Sidney; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Roberta was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Robert J. Harmon, and brother, Tommy Borland. There will be no public viewing. GREENVILLE — George H. Hogge Sr., age 76, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 5:10 p.m. at Wayne HealthCare, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on July 8, 1939, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Clyde and Eunice (Raulerson) Hogg. George retired from General Motors in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1994. He was a member of the United States Air Force and the United Auto Workers. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bridget and Andrew Adams of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, George H. and Vanessa Hogge Jr. of Coral Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Brandi (Brian) Whyte, Adam Hammitt, Ryan Hogge, Jessica Hogge, Jennifer Hogge, Quinton Hammitt, Joshua Slingerland, Haylee Rohr, Jordan Rohr and Kylee Rohr; and greatt-grandchildren, Lexi Slingerland and Ryiss Slingerland. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Jo Hogge, whom he married in 1969. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
