PITSBURG - Cody James Spencer, age 23, of Pitsburg, went home to be with the lord on April 17, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born Dec. 18, 1990 in Greenville. He is preceded in death by his grandparents James E. and Sue W. Spencer. Cody was a faithful and active member of Pleasant View Missionary Church in Greenville. He volunteered at the Miami County YMCA Youth Center, was on the Worship Team at PVMC, loved music, playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards, and playing Chess with Ray. He will be missed and remembered by his parents Gregory James and Patricia Lynn (Price) Spencer of Pitsburg, sisters and brothers-in-law Amanda and Mark Armstrong of Arcanum, Carmen and Casey Stickley of Southgate, Mich.; nephew Eli Armstrong; grandparents Lowell and Georganna Price of Pitsburg; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Pleasant View Missionary Church, 5231 Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road, Greenville, Ohio 45331, with Pastor Gerald Steele and Youth Pastor Brad Reineke officiating. Burial will follow at Mote Cemetery, Pitsburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. at Pleasant View Missionary Church, Greenville. COLDWATER - Effie E. Varvel, age 75, of Coldwater, died on April 20, 2014, at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. She was born April 18, 1939, in Chattanooga, Ohio, to the late Jesse and Nancy (Stoll) Fifer. She is survived by her second husband Harry Varvel, son a Joe (Stacy) Schwieterman of Coldwater, a daughter Ellen (Gerald) Heitbrink of Coldwater, stepchildren Tom Varvel, Sharon Adams, Connie Allread, Sandy Comer and Steve Varvel, all of Greenville, two grandsons Anthony and Bryan Schwieterman, 12 stepgrandchildren, 20 stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, siblings Hugh (Ruth) Fifer, Convoy, June Laux of Ft. Recovery, Dale (Sierra) Fifer of Convoy, a sister-in-law Sally fifer of Defiance and a brother-in-law Eugene (Bonnie) Schwieterman of New Bremen. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Schwieterman in 1989, a grandson Ron Schwieterman and siblings, James Fifer, Marlene (Bob) Presho, Andrew Fifer, John Fifer and Jim Fifer. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic church, Coldwater, graduated from Wright State University and worked at the former Huffy Plant in Celina. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. GREENVILLE - Gerald E. "Jerry" Williams, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 1:55 p.m. April 20, 2014, at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Jerry was born May 23, 1934, in Plain City, Ohio, and the son of the late Leland and Eleanor (Bishop) Williams. He retired in 1989 following a 35-year career with American Aggregates Corporation where he held the position as safety director and Workers Comp administrator. Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, a 50-plus-year member of the Plain City Masonic Lodge, had been an active horseshoe pitcher and involved in bringing the World Horseshoe Tournament to Greenville several years ago. Also enjoyed playing golf and working outside in the garden. He is survived by his wife, Roberta M. (Hobbs) Williams of Greenville. They were married June 27, 1964. Also by his brother Elwood Williams of Plain City and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Gerald Steele officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday by the Greenville Masonic Lodge.
