GREENVILLE - John Edmond Singleman, age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 7:14 p.m. March 28, 2013, at Heartland of Greenville.
John was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Hughestown, Pa., to the late John David and Clara K. (Oberer) Singleman.
John is survived by his wife, Martha L. (Runner) Singleman, whom he married June 15, 1948; son, Douglas Singleman of Greenville, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dan O'Brien of Grand Blanc, Mich., Nikki and Barry Stevens of Wapakoneta, Ohio and Leslie and Don Rismiller of Russia, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bertke of Rossburg, Ohio; half-sister, Jan and Mike Purdy of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and faithful dog, Daisy.
John worked for 33 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier; he was the former postmaster at New Weston and former Officer in Charge at the Rossburg Post Office. John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville and Greenville Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. John was the former mayor of New Weston, first long-term care ombudsman in Darke County and was the former president and vice president of the Ansonia Board of Education.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 233 W. Third St., Greenville, with Rev. Fr. John R. White celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenville with military graveside services conducted by the Greenville Veteran's Honor Guard.
