Melvin M. "Bud" Spencer, age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on July 23, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Melvin P. and Marie (Dill) Spencer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Steven and Terry Spencer; sisters, Nellie Leas, Doris Thomas, Perdita Baird and Mary Slade.
Melvin was a member of the United States Navy serving in WWII. He was a self-employed Farmer, was involved with the Darke County Plowing Organization where he was the past president, a member of the Palestine Church of Christ and American Legion #245 in New Madison and was the past president. He loved wood working.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Helen V. (Yohey) Spencer of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on Aug. 26, 1946; sons and daughters in law, Melvin L. and Ginger Spencer of Columbus, Ohio, and Jack D. and Sandy Spencer of Vandalia, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Cinda S. and Sam George of Medway, Ohio; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; sister in law Shirley Yohey of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Gary Cloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a full military service conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to the American Diabetes Association.
