ROSSBURG - Eugene Bernard "Butch" Link, age 89, of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 9 p.m. Nov. 3, 2013, at his residence.
Eugene was born March 18, 1924, in Mercer County Ohio, and the son of the late Henry and Kunagunda (Klingshirn) Link.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Darke County area and a veteran of W.W. II serving as a military policeman in the U.S. Army. Eugene was also a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Urban Zahn, and his brother and sister-in-law, Cyrl and Pauline Link.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Loretta L. (Berning) Link of Rossburg. They were married Feb. 12, 1947. Also son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James and Susan Link of New London, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Yoder of Rossburg; grandchildren and spouses, Nikki (Yoder) "Don" Davis, Karly (Yoder) "Gary" Beisner, Jamie (Link) "Neal" Harrington, Steven Link; great-grandchildren Madison Beisner, Brody Beisner, Mamie Harrington, Libby Link; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, 71 W. Main St., Burkettsville, Ohio, with Father Benedict Magabe as celebrant. Burial with military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in the St. Bernard Catholic Church Cemetery in Burkettsville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Prayers will be conducted Wednesday afternoon in the funeral home. It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice.
