Joan Groff, age 92, formerly of North Star, Ohio, died on Aug. 2, 2012, at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio.
She was born Jan. 5, 1920, in North Star, Ohio, to the late Leo and Zita (Grilliot) Stammen. On May 17, 1941, she married Val Groff and he died Feb. 28, 1995.
Joan is survived by five children, Cathy and John Creager of Rossburg, Vickie and Chuck Broerman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kathy and Larry Schmitmeyer of Coldwater, Sherry and Jim Myers of Greenville and Deb and Chris Kunkler of St. Henry; 17 granchildren, Jennifer and Carl Miller, Julie and Todd Sanders, Daniel and Pam Creager, Sarah and Travis Lamoureaux, Rachael, Laura and Emily Broerman, Melissa, Ben and Amanda Schmitmeyer, Kate, Alexandra and Valerie Myers, Ashley, Eric, D.J. and Allison Kunkler; 11 great-grandchildren Joshua, Kelsey and Jonathan Stewart, Zach Miller, Cody, Maverick and Ryder Sanders, Jakob, Olivia and Emily Creager and Lance Lamoureaux; a sister, Mary Jean Wehrkamp of North Star; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Stammen of North Star.
She is preceded in death by siblings, Carol and Bernard Selhorst, Robert and Loretta Stammen, Tom Stammen, Luke Stammen, Ruth and Albert Hemmelgarn and a brother-in-law, Ernest Wehrkamp.
She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality of the church. She worked for North Star Hardware and Implement for 58 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, Ohio, with Fr. David Zink, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, North Star, Ohio.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-St. Henry and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
