VERSAILLES - Mary Evelyn Strauss, age 96, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away the morning of April 22, 2013, at Florida Hospital in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Mary was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Herman L. and Mary E. (Baltes) Pepiot.
Mary is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Thomas Hart of Waynesville, N.C., and Carolyn and Orville Stachler of Lakeview, Ohio; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jim and Kathy Strauss of Flushing, Mich.; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Janet and Vern Lindsey of Monroe, Michigan; grandchildren, Denise & Steve Stephenson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Yvette Hart of Waynesville, N.C., Eric Stachler of Versailles, Ohio, Rob and Nancy Stachler of Lakeview, Ohio, Michael and Beth Stachler of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Michelle Kearns of Rocky River, Ohio and Krista and Shane Rodgers of Rocky River, Ohio; three stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, John Pepiot of Versailles, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Richard Keiser of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary is also preceded in death by her first husband, Adrian J. Monnin on Nov. 25, 1976, whom she married June 14, 1938; second husband, Elmer A. Pleiman on Jan. 10, 1989, whom she married Nov. 23, 1979; third husband, Ray Strauss on Oct. 24, 2009, whom she married Sept. 4, 1993; brothers, Earl and Bob Pepiot; and sister, Roberta James.
Mary graduated from Versailles High School in 1935 and attended Fredericks Academy in Springfield. Mary worked at Rike's Department Store in Dayton for 27 years. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and the Daughters of Isabella. Mary enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team, traveling, quilting and spending her winters in Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
